What is St. John's Creativity Centre and why did it start?St. John's Creativity Centre is a part of St. John the Evangelist's community outreach. The Centre uses the historic and beautiful space within the church worship space and the pollination gardens surrounding the building as the "rooms" of our Centre's programs and creative activities.
Why was the Centre created? In 2017, St. John the Evangelist church hired two summer students (Canada Summer Jobs Program) to program, to facilitate a local Art Series that included a play production, a music coffee house on the lawn, community art, and children's activities. We saw members of our community and our church discover the joy of creating. Inspired by last summer, a team from St. John the Evangelist and a local high school presented a pitch to the Diocese of Huron with the hopes to receive a grant to form a permanent centre. Our hearts soared when we heard we'd be awarded a "Jubilee Grant" towards making it happen. We hope the programs we offer in our church and on our front lawn can bring joy, a sense of community, a moment of calm, and a sacred space to explore what it means to be beloved, alive, and human.
